Simple sinewave synthesizer triggered by an ordinary 16step sequencer. Each triggered step causes a force on the underlaying wave-map, which makes it more cute.

it could be a very popular and really addictive thing if you keep working on it!
- add more sounds showed by different colors
- add vertical line which helps identify speed and current position of toggled cells
- ability to change speed of line
- octave up, down buttons
- ability to add new matrix lower or upper than main one, similar to layers. Each layer could be used as separate line for bass, lead, and so on.

Anyway, it’s a great start!

Slick! I second the various calls for saving/sharing and also for using it to create ringtones. You could retire on the iPhone earnings, no joke.

Be neat to use this to play Tetris on, where as the bricks fall they shift and move through your grid and each pulse plays its arrangement.

How do you make it bigger?

Sean wrote...

Brilliant Pattern matrix. Put in an octave change or 4 martrices maybe in a diamond pattern so that the bass is at the bottom etc and the highest notes are in the top square. You would have to rotate the matrix by 45 degrees. Probably a stupid idea but who knows… Then it would become a sequencer by duplication.

I understand that the notes available in this game are the notes of the D Major Pentatonic Scale, which is the same as the B Minor Pentatonic Scale. In its current state, however, the very lowest and the very highest notes you can play are both As. A is the perfect fifth of the D Major scale, and the minor seventh of the B Minor scale. Quite an awkward note to be the lowest and highest. I recommend bumping the scale around a bit so that either D or B is the lowest and highest note. It’s not a big deal, just something that bugged me.

gray wrote...

very interesting. i guess if you could “see the music” like all those acid trippers back in the 60’s said they could, it would look something like this

Erik wrote...

James, I know what you mean.

But, with this setup, you can still get quite a nice dominant motion.

Plus, by adding the D at the bottom, you’d need to add 3 more notes, including the D, making the grid a 19×19 grid, which wouldn’t be very rhythmically pleasing.

It’s a B minor or D major pentatonic scale with A as the the highest and lowest note. It’s easy enough to save these on a written matrix, but you can also tab or write it out on a staff. Top row is A, 2nd is F#, 3rd is E, fourth is D, and fifth is B. Then it starts over. You can treat each square as a quarter, eighth, or sixteenth note - or you can go beyond that and get ridiculous. It makes a great practice tool for sixteenth note runs. I plan to tell my guitar students about this.
